April 2016 marked the return of Day of Caring for the first time in eight years. After many partner agencies and community volunteers requested that we bring back this daylong volunteer event, we couldn't resist! More than 250 volunteers from 14 area businesses donated a full day to volunteering at a dozen local nonprofit organizations to get some much-needed work done. The work was worth an estimated $40,000!
United Way looks forward to Day of Caring again in 2017 – only this year, it will occur in September. Because April marks National Volunteer Week, we will turn our spring volunteer efforts to partnering with ForColumbia, a faith-based volunteer initiative comprised of more than 2,000 volunteers from 48 local churches.
The ForColumbia daylong volunteer event will be held April 29. United Way is excited to host a free barbeque for volunteers in our parking lot from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 28. Please join us! We look forward to working with ForColumbia volunteers at our September Day of Caring! Stay tuned for more details.
