Our 2017 Community Campaign kicked off Sept. 11 at the Columns Club of Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium. More than 300 were in attendance as we welcomed University of Missouri President Mun Choi and Chancellor Alexander Cartwright, Turning Point Executive Director Marcus Reynolds, and 2017 Campaign Chairs Bev & Allen Curtis. The festive event concluded with a rock, paper, scissors show-down between Choi and Mizzou Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Pingeton with the voice of Mizzou Basketball Gary Link officiating (Choi took best out of seven). We were also honored to have members of the Columbia Fire Department present the colors as we paid tribute to those lost on Sept. 11.
Following the kickoff, more than 300 volunteers in red Live United shirts headed out into the community for a day of volunteering. Previously held in the spring, this annual Day of Caring coincided with this year’s National Day of Service and Remembrance. The volunteers represented 16 local companies and completed projects at 19 United Way partner agencies. The projects included landscaping, light construction, painting and playground repair. It was a fantastic day for improving lives in our community!
